Jenny Lou Drew grew up in the deep woods of Maine in the 80s and 90s. The daughter of back-to-landers, her father supported the family by working graveyard shifts at the paper mill. On his days off, he slowly erected a self-designed post-and-beam house made entirely from trees harvested from the forest surrounding the family’s house trailer by oxen. Jenny’s mother was a painter and a stained glass artisan with whom she travelled to craft shows to sell wares throughout the state. The one constant in any home the family inhabited was music. There was always music on the TV or the stereo, sometimes late into the night.

Jenny would memorize her songs acapella before she learned how to write. Once she managed to steal her father’s boombox from her sister, Alisha, she would record melodies and lyrics onto cassettes. At the age of fourteen, she got her first guitar and within a year was opening for a local biker band, Lisa Gallant Seal & the Brotherhood Dogs, at hog roasts and venues throughout New England.

After recording and releasing a full length album with a band called A Moving Train, Jenny and guitarist, Scott Morgan bought a home on the midcoast of Maine and tried their hands at hobby homesteading. In 2011 and 2012, the pair collaborated with Guitar Doors in a program geared toward providing therapeutic songwriting to incarcerated men in recovery. In 2013 Jenny completed an internship with the program before graduating with a degree in Psychology from the University of Southern Maine.

The couple’s cover duo became a local attraction on the midcoast, performing roughly two hundred shows per year at resorts and restaurants in Maine before going on hiatus in 2022 to focus on more creative endeavors.

Jenny returned to hospice work in 2023, and released new music for the first time since 2019 — download Weatherworn Angel for free on BandCamp while supplies last. In 2020 Jenny & Sugarbear began working toward healing the land surrounding their home while simultaneously creating an intentional space to share music, art, and healing. Willow Hill Sessions will commence in the Spring of 2024 with a limited run of invite-only live + livestream performances by artists who are connected to the state of Maine. These performances will support artists and local not-for-profit projects that are making a difference in Maine communities.

In January of 2024, Jenny Lou soft launched the Serenity Services of Maine Legacy Project geared toward providing songwriting and doula services to individuals facing incurable illness and those bereaved. The songwriting experience is offered to those who desire to complete a legacy project throughout the end-of-life process or following the loss of a loved one. Since launching the project, Jenny began work on her own legacy project — releasing recorded material she had stashed away and scouting a limited number of artists to produce at Willow Hill Studio.

Though unable to provide comprehensive End-of-Life Doula services at this time, each Legacy Project consultation commences with a general doula consultation provided by Jenny Lou, a UNE and INELDA trained, End-of-Life-Doula.

Most consultations are provided via Zoom. Private in-home consultations are available on a case by case basis.
